How was the Lipstick Angels association born?

The founder of the association, Renata Helfman, worked for 15 years as a professional celebrity makeup artist in Los Angeles and wanted to use her expertise to make a difference. During her career, Renata has cultivated a passion for products without chemical additives and wanted to make an impact by helping those around her. Renata's grandmother, who was diagnosed with cancer, was always helped by her granddaughter in her beauty makeover. Following the death of her grandmother, Renata wanted to continue to share moments of joy with people suffering from cancer and other chronic diseases.

In 2011, Renata volunteers for cancer patients and is surprised that the hospital does not offer a "beauty" program. That's when her mission begins: to bring beauty, compassion and the human touch to patients in need.

What is the mission of the Lipstick Angels association?

This program is designed to create a positive experience that boosts the confidence of people who are in conflict with the side effects of treatment.

The volunteers spend moments of joy and exchange with the patients, which have a real benefit on the patient's cure. "One of the first things we do when we meet a patient is to make a presentation of the products, and to assure them that the products are free of chemical additives. They are designed not to irritate the skin. Patients are then educated about bio-hypo-allergenic products, how to get them, and how to apply them in the right way."

Cancer patients often wait alone in their chairs, and very little other than a magazine or book can be given to them. Lipstick Angels is also about meeting the emotional needs of patients. Renata says:

During this time when we are together, we are only 2 women and cancer is not present. During this moment, they are not sick. And I think it's affecting the brain, the heart, and there's some kind of treatment, and they feel like a person again.

Lipstick Angels really has a positive effect on patients' lives, in their fight against cancer and also in their daily life. They have a renewed desire to go out for dinner with their husbands, and they are no longer afraid of being judged when they pick up their children from school.

Who are the Angels?

Volunteers, also known as Angels, are professional make-up artists who volunteer at least twice a week in a hospital. They are required to have experience in beauty, and they must also be delicate and have a good sense of communication.

All volunteers undergo special Lipstick Angels training, as well as a general orientation course on the hospital in question.

Initially intended only for women, men also request facials, hand massages, etc.
